Before Quitting

  1. Why do you think you smoke?
  2. Where do you smoke?
  3. What is the reason you want to quit?
  4. How many times and what methods did you use in the past?
  5. Why did you return to smoking?
  6. Do you understand as a non-smoker you will never want another cigarette again? Just that one cigarette will take you back to smoking what you had been smoking prior. One, two or three packs a day. Which would make you a smoker?
  7. What is going to be your biggest challenge?
  8. How do you plan to deal with it?
  9. Smoking is not just physical for most people but psychological and habitual. Do you know of some of the things you can do in its place? Tooth picks, brushing teeth, chewing gum, cinnamon candies, drinking water, healthy chewy snacks, sunflower seeds, taking a walk, reading a book, participating in an activity you enjoy, spending time with family and friends or peppermints, etc.
  10. Remember you do not want to replace one bad habit with another so don’t sit around stuffing your face with junk food. Find healthy alternatives to boredom. Do things that you enjoy doing; hobbies that you have or haven’t done in the past that make you happy.
